Pupils are encouraged to participate in as wide a variety of sports as possible and to develop a love for competing, doing one’s best, winning or losing well and everything that goes with team participation (working together, achieving a common goal, camaraderie, working through differences and celebrating each other’s highs and lows). Treverton offers a beautiful setting with wide open spaces to get involved and experience all the exciting opportunities that are on offer.
1st Term sports: Cricket, Tennis, Athletics, Swimming, Boys Basketball, Horse Riding, Rock Climbing, OP Activities(kayaking, mountain biking, trail running).
2nd Term sports: Rugby, Hockey, Cross Country, Horse Riding, Netball, OP Activities(kayaking, mountain biking, trail running).
3rd Term sports: Athletics, Soccer, Girls’ Basketball, Horse Riding, Rock Climbing and OP activities(kayaking, mountain biking, trail running).
4th Term sports: Cricket, Tennis, Athletics, Swimming, Boys Basketball, Horse Riding, Rock Climbing, OP Activities(kayaking, mountain biking, trail running).
We do have Tennis and Squash Courts which students are available to use during the afternoons for leisure.
We strive to get as many students involved in adventure sports and outdoor pursuits as possible. Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Kayaking and Rock Climbing are becoming popular adrenaline-boosting activities.
Inter-schools Competition
Over the years, Treverton, has consistently been one of the top Schools within the Co-ed Natal Midlands League. It has produced many top sportsmen and sportswomen, and deserving and able pupils can participate at a Provincial and National level.
Girls participate in hockey, indoor hockey, athletics, cross country, soccer and basketball against the following A-League Schools: St Anne’s, St Johns, Epworth, Maritzburg Girls High School, Carter High, Voortrekker High and Howick.
Boys play basketball, hockey, soccer, cricket, athletics, cross country and rugby and compete regularly against schools such as St Charles, Linpark, MCS, Carter High, Howick, ECA, Hilton, Maritzburg College, Michaelhouse, Greytown, Weston, Thomas More, Alex High, St Henry’s, Estcourt and Wartburg.
Treverton holds an annual Easter Sports Festival with over 700 participants participating in Rugby, Boys and Girls Hockey, and Netball.
Inter-house Competition
The three sports houses Campbell (Red), Jonsson (Blue) and Harland (Yellow) compete annually in a range of events for the much-coveted Inter-house Trophy. This competition becomes very competitive amongst the houses and promotes some good healthy competition amongst the students.
Treverton College offers a full range of traditional school sports as well as the Outdoor Pursuits Programme offering a brilliant opportunity for Learning, Leadership, Accountability, Responsibility, Team Building, Effective Communication, Developing Self Confidence…oh and yes outdoor skills!
