Treverton has developed a national and international ‘name’ as a significant leader in environmental education and for their commitment to their environment. Long before environmental education was either a component of the curriculum or a popular additional activity at schools, Treverton was leading the way in this field. Their involvement has not only been at a school level but has also incorporated a local focus with a national and international involvement.

• From the outset Treverton incorporated environmental education into their curriculum
• Hosted the first environmental education conference in Southern Africa in 1982
• Treverton was the ‘birth-place’ for the Environmental Education Association of Africa
• In 2000, Treverton was placed in the first three in the Nedbank/Mail and Guardian Trust Awards (Natural Resource Development Category)
• In 2001, Treverton won the Green Trust Awards- Overall Winner Award.
• In 2004, the EEASA annual conference returned ‘home’ when it was held at Treverton.
• In 2005 the TWA was registered as a Site of Conservation Significance by the government of KwaZulu-Natal
• Participated in and hosted the first Africa ENO–Environment Online programme in 2004
• Treverton has also obtained ECO-Schools awards since 2005 and their international flag in 2010.
• In 2011, family group of Zebra and 55 Blesbok were caught on the Treverton Wildlife Area (TWA) and relocated to farms in the Midlands area.
• In May and August 2011 Treverton held Educators’ Development workshops in Environmental Education for teachers from 10 Local Schools. These workshops continue annually.
• The TWA and the school collaborate with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) to assist disadvantaged students obtain qualifications and hands-on experience in conservation.
• Treverton received the Eco Systems Platinum Awards in 2011 and 2012
• 2012, Treverton received WESSA’S premier award for their contribution for outstanding work for the benefit of environmental conservation and/or education over a sustained period.
• Grade 7 pupils are responsible for the upkeep of the wetland area on the TWA
